our song

We have finally found our song..

Yes this is our song after being together for 22 months and 24 days..
A song that was playing on the radio in the car that we knew at that moment we loved this song.

Embrace "Gravity"

I am so tired

Ever since i started this new job, i am clocking average 10 hours a day and max 13 hours sometimes.
i knew it was not going to be easy, but i am taking it ok.

Today is my 13th day, and i have already picked it up and going full throttle.
had to get used to the process, understand the nature of work, getting to know new people.. And i am getting hang of it.

This is one challenge I wanted to take before moving on to something bigger. And i am learning new stuff everyday. It is so different from what i used to do, but it made me realise all these years from my previous coys, i was able to build such a strong foundation for myself. Which I am where I am now. So I am very thankful for that.

People warned me enough of what ad agency is like. Esp if it is a big one. but so far, i am enjoying it.. Hopefully i will feel the same when my probation ends.

Now all I ask for is one night of good sleep.

Something to ponder about

You are a bus driver. The bus, your company, is at a standstill, and it’s your job to get it going. You have to decide where you're going, how you're going to get there, and who's going with you.

Most people assume that great bus drivers (read: business leaders) immediately start the journey by announcing to the people on the bus where they're going—by setting a new direction or by articulating a fresh corporate vision.

In fact, leaders of companies that go from good to great start not with “where” but with “who.” They start by getting the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats. And they stick with that discipline—first the people, then the direction—no matter how dire the circumstances.

When it comes to getting started, good-to-great leaders understand three simple truths.

First, if you begin with “who,” you can more easily adapt to a fast-changing world. If people get on your bus because of where they think it’s going, you'll be in trouble when you get 10 miles down the road and discover that you need to change direction because the world has changed. But if people board the bus principally because of all the other great people on the bus, you’ll be much faster and smarter in responding to changing conditions.

Second, if you have the right people on your bus, you don’t need to worry about motivating them. The right people are self-motivated: Nothing beats being part of a team that is expected to produce great results.

And third, if you have the wrong people on the bus, nothing else matters. You may be headed in the right direction, but you still won’t achieve greatness. Great vision with mediocre people still produces mediocre results.

I am going to be a f$%#ing awesome bus driver! yeah! :D

This is what i call an "Exit with Style and Glamour"

Haha.. so we slaved and whored ourselves to the client for past 3 years and finally bear the fruit of hard work and sweat. (Although we are still not very sure which client has nominated us :P)

On Sept 4th 2008, attended the Marketing Agency of the Year award ceremony and we won Bronze of Email Marketing Agency of the Year.
Not too bad, as our agency is not as well known in the region as in the US or in Europe..

We have finally set up our own office and moved in to Shenton way. The office is real nice and we are more than excited that we have finally have our place in Singapore.

So this was real nice to get appreciated by the clients, just few weeks before my departure. This rounds up all purrfectly, of the wonderful 34 months I had in this company.

I am sure even without my presence ;P , Acxiom will do very well and aim for "Local Hero" next year! Thank Goodness, I wont be competing in the same category :)

Another milestone

i have been sooo super busy with work and all the travelling that I had no time to update my blog..
So what have i been up to?

Oh the big news.. I have resigned! I am giving up this very good life of mine to another new place..
I really love my job.. I have the best client I can ever ask for. And I have purrfect work-life balance. I work from home most of the time. I am free of office politics. I earn very good money with regular pay increments and my bonus comes in every 3 months. I declare my own holiday. And lastly I am bloody good at what i do.

And with much thoughts (seriously i thought about it for 3 weeks when offer was made!) i decided to let go and do something more challenging.. I need to think far where my career is headed and what I want to be in 5-10 years.. yes I want to be someone.. MD or CEO.. and this new job will give a very good networking opportunities and a solid (I hope!) stepping stone :) So i made up my mind. I am more sad to leave my clients than my colleagues!! boo hoo..

If i am married with kids most likely i would have stayed. But now I am 30, and when the opportunity comes, you need to grab it and hold on tight. I am very blessed as I believe this new job was guided by God as so many things fell in its place and all was so smooth.. And the amount of blessings I received.. It is one testimony I tell you!

I love to go for interviews.. I get calls from headhunters quite often. Some i turn down, some I go for interviews to find out my market value worth. And most of the time they cant pay me that much.. Yes seems like I am paid over average, but why am i always broke? :P
And all these interviews helped me with my interview skills and my people skills as I got more and more comfortable with the interviews :)

So I am moving on.. 2nd of Oct at the new place, new job scope, new colleagues.. And I am so looking forward to it!

Weekend shopping trip to Hong Kong!

Hong Kong is crowded.. Too many people everywhere.. And they are all super skinny!
Can you believe at boutiques, the largest size for men is waist 31? *faint*

Anyway shopping is still fabulous! Way better than the GSS in Singapore this year.. It absolutely fullfilled my shopping deficiency.

There were lot of hilarious moments.

1) We drank the tea that was meant to wash the utensils - which i knew, but then i forgot. But actually we agreed that this tea tasted the best!

2) We were late for check out. But we passed this fabulous boutique that I couldnt resist. So we went in,saw this pretty dress I had to get it so forgot to even look at the price tag went to the cashier.. and it was a whooping 200+!!

3) The boutique offered free cakes which they refused to give it to me as a take away. i had to dine in.. we were already late for hotel check out and about 20mins away from the hotel, i was still arguing with the cashier why cant they bloody give me the cake on a napkin.. Mich was panicking all e way trying to pull me out from the boutique.

4) We had to buy the famous roasted goose back and we had to be at the airport by 6. We only had like 1 hour still headed down to lan kai fong and in midst of all the tight time we had still managed to go into H&M glanced around. Mich only made 1 floor but within 8 mins, i went to all the floors.. I am the champion of shopaholic! But with all this commotion, bloody hell, the goose sold out! aarrgh

One thing we learned. Mich and I can never join the Amazing race as partners, as we will stray into shops, need starbucks coffee breaks and we still need to dress up while racing..

Day 1 damage:

Day 2 damage:

Day 3 damage:

Total Damage = About SGD 3,200

But I am super proud of myself! As nowadays I purchase stuff sensibly only those that I really like and I need!!
Definetely HK is on my must visit for sales country list for next year!

30 is the new 20 but with more money to enjoy!

Thats what people say.. and i truly believe it. Hit another milestone and now I am 30and actually it is way better than the 20th birthday.. (which i cant really recall but think i was in KL)

My "THREE-OH and as Fab as ever" was really va-va-boom with my very best-est friends.
The meal cost me 500+ (!!) but everyone enjoyed the food so I am happy.. The cake was fabulous.. Cannot ask for more..

Then flew up to Phuket.. We stayed at JW Marriot, being a 5 star resort, the service is fabulous and the resort is absolutely gorgeous. We should have just stayed at the resort for 5 days.
The weather was fantastic and everything about the resort is just so purrfect.

But compared to 10 years ago, Phuket (patong, phiphi islands) is so polluted, dirty and not as exotic as before.. Krabi is still way better, and give me Bali anytime..
But I tried snorkling first time in my life right in the middle of the ocean where you jump out from the boat, which was actually not too bad.. But i find the fish quite gross esp when they are very near swishing pass me.. confirmed again, i will never learn diving..

On my birthday itself, the hotel guest relations sent me fruit basket with a happy birthday message..
Then I was WOW-ed by the room service, when they knocked on my door with a birthday cake and a candle..
And finally I was blown away when we were having dinner at the hotel restaurant.. They kept reconfirming our room number.. And when i was about to get irritated, the whole restaurant staff sang me a birthday song with a huge cake! I was so touched...!!
So that is why it is called 5 star resort with thumbs up service.. Then me and bf had this idea,to do a round call of each restaurant at the resort, maybe they will each give us a cake :D but we were too full..

had too much thai food, that i lost my voice cuz of the chilli.. but overall it was an awesome holiday :)

Now its really time to enjoy my 30s. Earn more, save more, and get ready for another milestone of 40s. Looking forward to it already :D

6.17.2008

Count down for big THREE-OH!

When I was 16 I desperately wanted to be 18 real quick so that I can show off my ID proudly to go clubbing.. No more boat quay pubs, leave behind the far east plaza kiddy stuff and i could go somewhere more happening.. like Sparks! ahem..

Then I turned 18 looked forward to 24. No more school, will be in killer heels and gorgeous power suit with Louis Vuitton laptop bag and office badge hanging around my neck.. Yes this I wanted although i didnt really think that far what I will be working as:P

Then i reached 24.. i cant remember after that. Only thing I know, is that i have less than a month before entering the 3-0s.

Everyone says life is better after 30. and even better when you are in 40s.

I always thought by 30 i would have:

1) Married with 3 kids -- I have a man who behaves like a kid and 2 cats.
2) Earn 5 figure a month -- Not complaining & I love my job!
3) or just tai-tai is better still -- does "self-declared-tai-tai" count?
4) Travel around anywhere anytime I wanted -- I go wherever I wish, when time permits
5) Own a car -- Beautiful RUSH!
6) Own a house -- I have lot of showflats to visit anytime and stay as long as I want, just that i dont sleep there!
7) Plan for retirement house in Bali -- I am still sourcing thus the reason why i go bali every year :P

Glass is half full right? Think +Positive+!

It's a mixed feeling I guess. It is NOT just a number for women..!
Three-OH means:
"Oh - so expired"
"Oh - so old"
"Oh - so auntie" :/

Well, I am blessed that I am still as FABULOUS and a babe who is in total control of everything! And it helps that i look younger than my age! :D

I am going to enjoy it, love it, cherish it.. And really, life will be even better :D
i can feel it in my bones (hmm i think it's going to rain.. ;P) !

PS.. i should participate and fill in more surveys before my bithday.. so I can still check the box where it says "indicate your age group: 20-29"

Cat in blue highlights that went terribly wrong..

So my dear is currently in process of doing some artwork to submit for UOB POY 2008.
And my darling cat Crayon decided she needs a new look.. tired of her being called cute, adorable. She wants to be called a "Cool" Cat.. Meow!!

because the next day..
we found her in blue!!!! She must have rubbed herself on the canvas or maybe tried to climb on or something.. her little paws are blue, her face is blue, blue patches on her body..

and she looks sooo cute and cool.. what can i say..
Makes me wonder if I can dye her pink.. :P
In korea, they dye their dogs in all sorts of color.. I wonder if singapore sells those dye products safe for pets!! :D

Her mug shot..

what are u looking at face..

Familarity

I like Familarity..
who doesnt?

Even i go to a foreign land, i look for familarity.. Perhaps a smell that reminds me of something, or looks like somewhere I hang out, or food that i am comfortable with, or even getting to know a stranger who reminds me of someone I know..

And once again the familarity of my ex coy colleagues..
It was a wonderful trip, though it was not the complete usual gang... (one is in China, one gal is getting married thus cant travel, the other indian fella has gone MIA after he has shaved his head..;)) We are so familiar with eachother, it was such a joy to travel together again to KL! (except for one girl who never been to KL before and it was her 1st trip w us and many more to come!)

Even after so many years, we are so close, although we dont meet as often. We are so tight, that we can share, play pranks, full of jokes, be silly, act stupid, make fun of eachother and no one feels offended and we are completely ok..

And if one one of us get attached, we feel so happy for eachother, although it does feel like sending off your son to uni in overseas.. (well i dont have a son to send overseas for uni yet, but i am sure this is how it feels :P)

It was absolutely lovely! company was good, bride was beautiful.. and as usual my shopping spree was so worth it! :)

Rushing!

Ok so now I have been driving for past 6 months.. During the 6 months, I have taken cab exactly twice. Office to Client office and back less than 10 minutes ride each.

So on Wednesday my car was parked at my bf office (it's free!) and I had facial in town at 6pm.. So i decided to take train..
And oh gosh.. i got out of office at 5.35pm. I alighted at Sommerset and stepped into the parlour.. And it was.... 5.53pm!!

I was like, why in the hell did i buy the car! it is so much quicker to take train.. no need to walk all the way to the car park, drive out, go through erp, look for parking space, and depending where i parked the car, it means spending time walking to the place.. Usually it would have taken me about 40mins to do all this..

And by train it took me less than 20 mins to get to the beautician and paid only what? less than a dollar i think...

why why why.. esp now when erp rate is going up, more erp gantries, parking fee is not cheap.. not mentioning the ever increasing petrol!!!! with 1K going into my car every month, I could have bot 6 Louis Vuitton by now!! aaarrgghh

Today..

Took my car for maintenance. My bf took the car and dropped me off at far east plaza.
It was a BLOODY hot day.. After running my errands, i walked to tangs..
from tangs I walked to taka.. start to get bothered about the crowd and the heat..
from taka to centrepoint.. ok am going to faint....
then i took the bus to Bugis.. tatz it.. buay TAHAN lor!

I absolutely missed my RUSH!! oh man, oh man....
Reminded clearly why i love my car.. quiet, no odour, no heat, no single sweat, no crowd, and my radio.. ooooohhhh not mentioning 3 pairs of different slippers in my boot for me to change if i am torturing my feet.. i love my car.. oh my cute white rush rush..

how in the hell did i stand it last time? oohh.. ok i always hailed a cab.. :|

I am so sorry my dear car for doubting... I will bring you for nice polishing and waxing this weekend! ok???

I ABSOLUTELY HEART MY CAR!

Finally finished painting my family portrait!

Things probably you didnt know about ms.purrfectz

1) I played piano since I was 4 yrs old
- i only stopped going to lessons because I started to fancy keeping my nails long and always got slapped by my piano teacher when i was 17. I chose my beautiful long nails over becoming a famous rich pianist which I would be by now.. sighz

2) I learnt to draw and paint since I was very very small
- My mom is an artist and she taught art.. So when i was very small, I was surrounded by aspiring artists and naturally i started to paint.. Won numerous awards from primary school to high school until i left korea..

3) Thus in my senior yr in high school, i knew i should nurture my artistic ability - so was pondering if i should study fashion design or interior design.. In the end I was accepted to RMIT to major architecture but my parents disapproved of me leaving for Melbourne cuz I was only 18. which my parents made the right choice cuz i would have probably partied too hard, drunk everyday, eventually would have flunked out of school and maybe died of OD. :P
Parents are always right.. We just dont realise it until you reach 30.

4) After getting my BA for Multimedia arts and working in production hse for a year, realised my love and passion is actually bossing people around.. :P so said "bye" to being a slave and became a slave-driver instead.. ha ha

5) My current bf who is an art lover and painting is his passion. It kind of influenced me to get in touch with my artistic side which is in my blood.. and got me to hold my brushes again and paint..

And finally I finished my family portrait after 5 months of slacking.. :P

1m x 1m acrylic on canvas
Polly and Crayon posing in front of finished painting.. of them...

Now i am so inspired to start another one.. :D

$10M TOTO Hongbao Draw

Again, how can I miss the chance to get rich in a blink of an eye?

So I became a bit kiasu and went to two different places to buy.. One of the place is where i often see Group 1 winner.. which is also very near my house.

But this time, I invested $10 bucks and another $10 bucks at the 2nd location..

and the result?

I am one of the lucky Group 5 winner...!! woo hoo~! at least I got my capital back and gained additional 10 bucks! WAHAHAHAHA

It is even better than my $5M mooncake draw from last year!

and the best part? I won it from the 1st location where alot of Group1 won before.
and again this year, at that same location, have 1 Group 1 winner and 1 Group 2 winner! That shop fengshui must be bloody good man!
So whoever bought before me or after me, maybe is the uncle who was in front of me or the auntie behind me had the winning tickets! Bloody hell.....

it was my bad motive.. My ultimate motive to win the 10 mil was to buy that fab 150 pounds top from asos which JLO was spotted on with.. haiz.. i should have had a pure motive like donate money to Cambodia mission or better still, fly there personally and donate and help to build church or something....

Oh well.. but i am still verrrry happy! Esp it is the last day of the lunar new year, which is really beginning of the tough year cuz this year my luck supposed to suck BIG time, but it seems like, it is all smooth sailing! :))

oh happy day!

updated..

Woke up this morning logged on to my msn, accidently opened full size of my msn window..
And at one of the vendor's nick, I saw..

I got a shock for a second! I was like "Wat the ... "

then realised "g" was cut half way and appeared as "a".. she meant "heng heng"
had a good laugh but just had to email her.. maybe was her good wish i won 30 bucks! :D

Failed to be a fulltime homemaker

I dont like house work. Period. Well excluding laundry. I love doing laundry.
I cook, but only expert at few dish so I rotate :P But i do not enjoy washing dishes.

My mom is a full time homemaker. Our house was always sparkling clean and nothing is out of place. She goes for morning tee (golf) after that goes high-tea and shops all afternoon, and she cooks dinner. She is so busy being a tai-tai but the house is always clean. We had a part time maid before, but my mom gets suspicious of everything, that we ended up dismissing her and my mom was more than happy to get her chores back :\

But me? no.. she tried teaching me how to cook and i end up chatting away with her that I completely missed what she was doing. I dont iron my clothes so my mom always iron my clothes at one go, and i wear them, wash them and wait till my mom to visit me so she can iron all of them again.

When i stayed in a smaller house alone, it was ok to manage. Well I thought I did. But the day i moved out from bayshore.. Gosh.. I cant believe i thought my flat was neat and clean and i actually lived there for 2 years.. the dust was everywhere, it was dirty and had lot of dead roaches hidden behind furniture and God knows where:|

After moving into this bigger place, i got myself a Part-Time helper! And gosh, she is an angel sent from heaven to help me. She must be a saint or something.. she cleans the house squeaky clean! The floor is sparkling, the toilet is so shiny and no sign of dust or cat hair.

But then I realised I am always busy just before she comes. I am bloody busy bustling around the house cleaning! i pick up the laundry, i wash the dishes, I organise the barang barang around the house, i make the bed, throw away trash..... My bf and my brother dont understand and say "Arent you paying her to do all this?" when I become hysterical at them for not helping me...
I can't explain why.. but i realise it is not only me. I read one of the feature article in the papers and magazines.. and they explain it clearly why they do this and I totally agree..

We dont want to look sloppy to others.. Friends, colleagues, or to anyone we meet..(part-time helper is certainly "others"!) We always want to look purrfect and appear as if everything is in order.

We are successful fulltime working women, thus we have control in everything.. Career, Money, Men, children and of course house work (ahem!)...
It is just that we r too busy so we just need a little teeny hand from the part-time helper to just "assist" the certainly NOT sloppy and already-purrfectly-done-housework-by-moi so we can use that spare time for a quick manicure.. heh heh

I just spent $310 on cookies?!

Was watching makansutra the other day, and he was eating this savoury looking cookies. i swore to myself that i am gonna get my hands on it.

And it is CNY, instead of traditional pineapple tarts or that roasted pork thingy which is so fattening, i decided to get these cookies instead..

It is not those usual cookies you come by.. At "The Cookie Museum", which is at the 1st floor at Esplanade, they have most wierd flavoured cookies you would ever imagine.. Such as nasi lemak flavor, ikan bilis flavour, hae bee hiam flavour and lots more!!

And it is soooo good I tell you.. not sweet, not heavy.. but the price tag doesnt come cheap. Esp now it is CNY - a tin of cookies costs $30 ~$32..

The sales girl is sweet too.. she let us try all the flavours.. and for spending that much, I got tea leaves! The cookie tins are so pretty, the bag is so chic and even the name card is posh!

Got it for my bosses, my parents, my grandparents, and of course for my bf's parents :D

And a tin for myself which is called "Love&knots" it is strawberry+honey mango+brazilian nuts" it is heavenly.. and it is so gooooood that my dear cat Polly sniffed it and started to nibble it and finished the whole half piece! hmm i hope it is not lethal to cats or something.. :/

Definetely you should try it.. Now i know what to get for my Singapore visitors.. this is really something very unique which you find only in Singapore! Singaporeans should be proud of these cookies man..! I would choose these cookies over kimchi anytime!

I am definetely impressed with it, and further more i am so amazed that I xtually spent $310 on cookies....!!

You can read more here other people have blogged about it too

God's Favor!

Last year, my bf's sister lent me this book "Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential" by pastor Joel Osteen. It talks about favor and how blessed we all are.. Though there are some critics about this book, but I wont go there.

However, i enjoyed this book, and i realised how really blessed I am, and understood what is "Favor". All the while I thought either I was just plain lucky or just have good vibes that things work out the way I want it to be and concluded all this happens to me, because God loves me so much. Which is somewhat true cuz God loves me so much that, God's favor is all over me!!

One example is, I never worry about crowded parking lot at malls or at work. Ever since i started driving, I realised parking is a b#$%# in Singapore. But after reading that book, I will always pray before I enter the carpark.

I pray to God that I will not be impatient, I will still give way to other drivers, I will drive slow, whoever is about to leave had a good time at the mall and lastly, God will provide me a parking space.

And, he always does! Believe me, the busy hours at parkway parade during weekends at L4, the moment i enter, I always get a space. right in front me! Though there are cars parked along the alley waiting for the lots, the spot i go to, always someone is about to leave!
My bf tot it is just bunch of coincidences, but now he believes it is really God's favor.

Like today I dont know why, but Raffles City parking was full today. the cars were waiting in line outside to enter the carpark. I waited as well. It took be about 10mins to reach the barricade. And I thought "oh no.. it is going to close in front of me since about 5 cars in front of me just went in." but guess what! The barricade closed right after i entered. So i was the last one behind a long tail to go down to B2. Didnt have much faith about empty lots but had faith in God..

And guess what! while the other cars in front of me were circling, I turned right towards the escalator entrance as I could feel the favor all around me.. and right in front of my own eyes, a car slowly drove out giving me the lot!

I am soooooo favored!!

When people asks why are you so lucky?
I answer, it's God's favor. I love him so much and he loves me so much that he favors me.
Though how cranky I am, or what a crappy day I had, the moment i leave everything to God daddy, he comforts me and show me his favor which immediately makes me smile again and praise him! Isnt daddy God so wonderful?

Six Degrees Of Separation

The world is getting smaller and smaller... We are all linked in some way even we are different races, or live in different continent..

- My boyfriend's best friend is my good friend's close childhood friend.
- My boyfriend's estate friend's wife is my Korean church friend. And we were at their wedding - but of course we didnt know eachother then.
- One of the bridesmaid at my boyfriend's friend's wedding, was one of my far east plaza hang-out friend when i was in high school! *brought back all the teenage memories i wished NOT to remember*
- My boyfriend's camp mate is my ex-school mate who used to pursue me..
- One of my boyfriend's sec classmate happens to be my friend's sister
- My boyfriend's sister is my coy director's friend... *ga ga ga maybe a chance of promotion? :P *
- My friend in US joined this new coy in SF which he became the client of my ex-coy in Singapore and my ex-colleagues slaved for him
- My Korean best friend moved to SF, and she met this guy who works in my current coy in SF, and he reports to my ex's twin...!
- I got to know this guy in SF, found out he works at my previous coy which i was outsourced to, and works together with the boss i used to report to! though we never worked together before we exactly knew what is eachother's role in the team! *freaky*

and i think there is more, but just cant recall anymore..
So what does this mean....?
The world is getting smaller and smaller.. I thought it happens only in Singapore, but apparently, it happens across the continent as well! And 6 degrees just seems so far now..
So make sure you have good reputation, work hard, work well, be good, be nice, because words get around REAL fast! :D

oh i remembered something..

My big boss in Milan knows Armani in person.
And Armani designs suits for Brad Pitt.
So if my big boss knows Armani who knows Brad Pitt... And I and my big boss is obviously linked.. So it turns out, I and Brad Pitt are friends!! HA HA HA

ok.. it's wednesday.. two more days to weekend...
